How does OCD affect us?

Common obsessions include feelings of contamination (for example, by dirt or disease), harming loved ones or people that are helpless, personally unacceptable sexual thoughts/moral wrongs and perceived sins or blasphemy.

People with obsessions have difficulty in ignoring, controlling, or removing these thoughts despite great efforts to do so.

Common compulsions or rituals include exhaustive ruminations, excessive washing, cleaning, constant checking, touching, counting, arranging and hoarding.

Those with compulsions believe that they are driven to carry out these rituals in order to prevent harm to themselves, or others.
